“BRING ME THE DISCO KING” BY DAVID BOWIE AND “TEARJERKER” BY CHILLY GONZALES AND JARVIS COCKER
This unique episode of our series will feature two songs in one sitting. Both songs refer back to an artist covered previously, but showcase an entirely different side of said artist. One of the two songs featured in this video is David Bowie’s “Bring Me the Disco King” off of his 2003 record “Reality” and features the talents of Poppy Xander on piano and Chris Holmes on drums.
The second of the two songs featured in this next video is a song from Chilly Gonzales’ and Jarvis Cocker’s 2017 collaboration record, “Room 29.” This concept record from neo-classical/jazz pianist and front man of, British band, Pulp, alludes to the “...birth of celebrity culture...” [Jarvis Cocker 2017] as it tells stories inspired by the infamous Los Angeles hotel, the Chateau Marmont. Poppy Xander and Leah Lane cover the song, “Tearjerker.”

In this second episode of “TAKE COVER - SPECIAL INSTALLMENT” Leah Lane and Poppy Xander perform a version of King’s song, “These Things (Reprise)” off of King’s 1985 record, “Bittersweet”. The song was written by front man, Paul King, and keyboardist, Mick Roberts. “These Things (Reprise) was chosen, much like the other songs featured in the previous “Special Installment” episodes, to showcase the artist in a light that is often not recognized.
Rosegarden Funeral Party is delighted to have the enormous talented that is Poppy Xander join Leah Lane again for another live perforce. This time filmed in Poppy’s living room on her stunning white grand piano. The performance is beautifully captured by Erin Devany of All Hallow’s Productions once again and, as always, the audio is recorded wonderfully by Michael Briggs of Civil Audio.
