“Rising from the inferno of heartbreak with a determination towards gentility, humility, graciousness, and kindness, Rosegarden Funeral Party takes influence from life’s tragedies and spins chaos into beauty. Leah Lane fronts the band with a voice like that of the lovechild between Morrissey and Siouxsie Sioux and her guitar playing has been compared to that of Daniel Ash. with bass playing that takes obvious inspiration from Peter Hook. With synths trapped in the loving arms of the 1980’s, rhythmic percussion and drums inspired by dark dance floors, Rosegarden Funeral Party prove to be the second-coming of traditional goth.”
“Invested in Nostalgia” is a series of filmed live performances by the band Rosegarden Funeral Party. The video is filmed, edited, and directed by Erin Devany of All Hallows Productions and the audio is recorded entirely live by Michael Briggs of Civil Audio in Denton, TX. Each installment of this series will feature a live performance of each of the major releases from Rosegarden Funeral Party's catalog. In this time of distance, we hope these videos provide some element of connectivity. We miss you all.
Be kind to each other, we love you.
Keep faith, keep fight, stay sane, stay strong.
“Take Cover” is a series of covers by Rosegarden Funeral Party. In each episode of this video series, the band covers one song by an artist that has heavily influenced the band along side a featured guest musician(s).
In this strange time of distance and isolation, we hope these videos provide some sentiment of future hope.
This unique episode of our series will feature two songs in one sitting. Both songs refer back to an artist covered previously, but showcase an entirely different side of said artist. One of the two songs featured in this video is David Bowie’s “Bring Me the Disco King” off of his 2003 record “Reality” and features the talents of Poppy Xander on piano and Chris Holmes on drums.
The second of the two songs featured in this next video is a song from Chilly Gonzales’ and Jarvis Cocker’s 2017 collaboration record, “Room 29.” This concept record from neo-classical/jazz pianist and front man of, British band, Pulp, alludes to the “...birth of celebrity culture...” [Jarvis Cocker 2017] as it tells stories inspired by the infamous Los Angeles hotel, the Chateau Marmont. Poppy Xander and Leah Lane cover the song, “Tearjerker.”
In this second episode of “TAKE COVER - SPECIAL INSTALLMENT” Leah Lane and Poppy Xander perform a version of King’s song, “These Things (Reprise)” off of King’s 1985 record, “Bittersweet”. The song was written by front man, Paul King, and keyboardist, Mick Roberts. “These Things (Reprise) was chosen, much like the other songs featured in the previous “Special Installment” episodes, to showcase the artist in a light that is often not recognized.
Rosegarden Funeral Party is delighted to have the enormous talented that is Poppy Xander join Leah Lane again for another live perforce. This time filmed in Poppy’s living room on her stunning white grand piano. The performance is beautifully captured by Erin Devany of All Hallow’s Productions once again and, as always, the audio is recorded wonderfully by Michael Briggs of Civil Audio.
In this third episode of Special Installment, Rosegarden Funeral Party covers an artist who means more than most; Duncan Browne. This song is dedicated to Friends and Foes alike with the purest of intent, with the purest of heart, and with the purest of love. The Special Installment episodes of Rosegarden Funeral Party's TAKE COVER series feature an artist who will either be covered later or has been covered in a different light than they are usually recognized. This Special Installment Episode features the incredible talents of Patrick Michot on classical guitar and Scarlett McPherson on celo.
